Slumdog Millionaire

Story of a boy raised in the slums of Mumbai. It tells us about how the little things he learnt during his hard life go on to brighten his future. It demonstrates that how being truthful, finally pays. It shows us how, being with someone you care about, is beyond all riches.

Awesome screenplay, brilliant cinematography and oustanding performances. A must watch !!

... Phir dekhiye, zindagi kitni haseen hai :)

Aankhon Mein Jiski Koi To Khwaaab Hai
Khush Hai Wahi Jo Thoda Betab Hai
Zindagi Mein Koi Arzoo Kijiye
Phir Dekhiye ……
Hothon Pe Jis Ke Koi To Geet Hai
Woh Haare Bhi To, Us Ki Hi Jeet Hai
Dil Mein Jo Geet Hai Gunguna Lijiye
Phir Dekhiye……
Yaadon Mein Jis Ki Kisi Ka Naam Hai
Sapno Ke Jaisi Uski Har Shaam Hai
Koi To ho JiSe, Apna Dil Dijiye
Phir Dekhiye…
Khwab Bun Yeh Zara ..
Geet Sun Yeh Zara..
Phool Chun Yeh Zara...
Phir Dekhiye…

Graduated !

Its not easy to have less fun and work hard :-(

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

I've come to India only for a few days, and at this time as soon as I saw the opportunity to go for a short trip out of Bangalore, I literally pounced on it.
I don't want to describe each and every moment of the trip cos its kinda boring and let me admit it, its pretty boring for the readers as well :D
Some observations:
- On the way to Pondicherry we passed through many small villages. As it was 15th august, we saw many kids coming back home from school in neat uniforms with small tricolors pinned to them. In the centre of a town we saw India's map drawn using flowers, and large posters of national heroes. I was always under the impression that people in small villages and towns must be just celebrating their regional functions and festivals and must not be very enthusiastic about national functions like the Independence day. But I am glad that I was proved wrong :)

- The sea water at Pondicherry beach was extremely salty. So much as to burn your eyes and nose. But the beach was pleasant all the same. Had a lot of fun.

- Made a sand castle (not a very great one though) the first time ever. I generally always start making it but never complete it due to boredom :-p

- In Mahabalipuram, we saw so many historical monuments. Its amazing how these monuments are still preserved so well. The intricate stone carving work is simply spell bounding. Especially the series of Pandava caves and Arjun's panel which are all made from only one huge rock. There are also the 5 rathas named after Pandavas and Draupadi.

- We went to the shore temple at Mahabalipuram. Supposedly there were 7 such temples centuries back. But the sea kept rising over the years and swallowed 6 of them, except one, which is now called the shore temple. They say that during Tsunami, the sea water had gone back as much as for people to see the 6 temples buried in sea !!

- We stopped at Kanchipuram on our way back and stopped at one of the temples there. Again, I was amazed by the amount of work and skill which had been put into building these temples. In that temple there was a hall of hundred pillars. Each of those hundred pillars had a story to tell. The sculptures of the people, their poses, their clothes and jewelry.. superb!!

- We went to Kamakshi temple too, but the queue was too long and we would have got late, so we decided to pass. There we saw an elephant and we saw some people cutting its tail hair. I didn't understand what was happening and got all upset wondering that they were hurting it in some way. My sister assured me that they were just trimming its tail hair and she went to check it out herself. What she saw was horrifying !! Those guys were cutting the tail hair to sell them. In fact there were very few hair left on the poor thing's tail, still those guys continued to cut them and sell them. She also saw a wound in its back which was obviously making it uncomfortable, but the mahawat was not even bothered.

- We also stopped by at a Kanchiwaram silk saree shop and saw how the weavers were making the saree on the loom. One of my sister's friends traveling with us has studied textile engineering and she was able to explain exactly how the weaving is done. Its such a delicate and skillful work, Hats off to those weavers.

And those are the highlights :) Samachar samapt. Namaskar :D

Someone's presence makes you strong,
And the thought of their absence makes you weak...

Some people have a tendency to ask for help as soon as they get into trouble,
Some people try to solve the problem themselves for sometime, and then ask for help.
Some people do not ask anyone'e help at all..

I realized I am the second kind.. not bad, better than the first :-p

An Indian Day rather evening :)

The evening of 21st March was very indian, reminded me of home. Very typical outing: mandir, chaat and then movie..

Went to the Hindu temple here in Irving. There we saw the holika dahan. A pandit was chanting mantras on the microphone and there were lots and lots of people gathered. It was just like being at a function in India.

Then we went to have chaat and then the day ended with a typical masala bollywood movie :D

Movie Review

Movie: Jodha Akbar

Love Story of Mughal Emperor Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar and Jodha Bai, a Rajput princess..

First and foremost... HRITHIK ROSHAN ROCKS!! I love his look, i love his attitude.. totally love his acting... The man emotes beatifully without moving a muscle.. There are many such scenes in which he totally expresses only through his face. His ego, his love, his awe.. Especially when he sees Aishwarya for the first time after days of their marriage!! In fact, in the same scene aishwarya also sees him for the first time. But her expressions are so dull when compared to him..
As you can see, I have removed Jodha and pasted only Akbar's fotu :D

Anyway, a well made movie.. Nice songs.. But I dont think everyone will like the movie.. Cos what you have to appreciate in this movie is, Hrithik's acting (of course :D ), the cinematography, the sets, the music and the dialogues.

Thats all..Yes, its a very small review.. As you can see, I mainly wanted to express my gratitude to Hrithik Roshan, for looking amazing in the movie :p :D

Cheers.
One prof said something really nice today:

Life is like a game. The goal is not to win, but to play it well!!

Cheers :)

Rishta: Kaanch sa nazuk nahi sheeshe sa saaf...

Rishta..Kaanch sa nazuk nahi sheeshe sa saaf...
A relationship: Not delicate like glass, but as clear as a mirror.

A beautiful song....

Bhai re, rishton ki dagar hai mushkil,
Aise na milegi manzil,
Chalna tu sambhal sabhal ke.
Dor aisi jodna jo gandh mann ki khole,
Ek rishta jo tere dil ka kona chu le
Kaanch sa nazuk nahi sheeshe sa saaf

The path of a relationship is difficult. You wouldnt reach the goal easily unless, you walk carefully. Tie the thread in such a way, that it would open the knot in the heart. Build a relationship which touches each corner of your heart. A relationship thats not delicate like a glass, but as clear as a mirror.

Rishta jo chahe rooth jaye par manane aaye,
Ankhon mein seelan magar, muskurane aaye,
Patto sa na ud jaye, shaamon sa na dhal jaye
Bujhte hue raston pe, umeed sa jal jaye,

Phool sa murjhaye na, khushboo ki ho baat.

This one is a little poetic.. Lets go to the next verse, the realistic one. Basic rules of a relationship.

Rishta wo jisme dooriyan ho, saans aaye jaaye,
Tera bhi apna geet ho, wo bhi koi geet gaye.
Khud ko mitana na chahe, tujhko badalna chahe,

Jaisa hai bhi hai tujhko, waisa hi wo apnaye,

Ho na andhiyara ghana, raat ka ho khwab.

A relationship in which both have their space. Each one sings his/her own tune but are still together. A person who should neither want to change himself, nor should he expect you to change. He should accept you as you are. You should not feel the darkness around, think of it as a beautiful dream in the night.

Inspiration

This song was written about a woman who had an abusive marriage. She left home withe her daughter and picked up a profession of a truck driver, which is pretty difficult for a woman.
Very inspirational..

Mann ke manjeere aaj khanakne lage
Bhoole the chalna, kadam thirakne lage
Ang ang baaje mrudang sa, sur mere jaage
Saans saans mein baans baans mein, dhun koi saaje
Gaye re, Dil ye gaane laga hai, Mujhko aane laga hai
Khud pe hi aitbaar

Badal tak jhoole mere pahunchne lage,
Ankhon ke aage gagan simatne lage,
Daal daal ne, taal taal de, choo ke hawayen
Khet khet ne, ret ret ne, phailadi baahein
Aaye he, Sindoori subah aayi, ghulti jaaye siyahi
Raaton ki Raaton ki

Khole jo darwaze to dekha har shai thi nahayi
Ujli ujli si thi meri tanhayee re
Badli badli si badli mere angna mein thi chayi
Virani rani ban ke mere paas aayi
Apni nazar se maine dekhi duniya ki rangoli
Mujhko bulane aayi mausam ki toli
Kholi aankhon ki kholi maine paayi apni boli
Mujhme hi rehti thi meri humjoli re..
Sun lo.. Ab na akeli hoon main, apni saheli hoon main,
Saathi hoon apni main
